LOCAL DIMENSION CALCULATOR

Passport Photo Size Calculator

Convert a physical photo size between millimetres and inches, then estimate pixel dimensions at a selected DPI. The calculation stays in your browser and does not open or edit an image.

Convert physical size to an estimated pixel size

Calculator input limits only: each side must be 1–150 mm (0.0394–5.9055 in); DPI must be a whole number from 72 to 1,200. These limits are not photo-submission rules.

Results update locally as you type. Switching units keeps the entered physical dimensions; displayed pixels are rounded to the nearest whole pixel.

Estimated pixel dimensions

413 × 531 px at 300 DPI (estimated)

Derived estimate only. DPI is a calculation input, not a recommendation or an issuer requirement. This tool does not inspect, edit, crop, or upload a file and cannot establish photo compliance.

Example: 35 × 45 mm at 300 DPI calculates to 413 × 531 px. This is below the UK digital-photo minimum of 600 × 750 px and is not a digital-photo target.

Verified UK printed-photo reference

HM Passport Office says a printed UK passport photo must measure 35 mm wide by 45 mm high. This is a physical print size; it does not specify a pixel count or DPI.

Official GOV.UK guidance checked 5 October 2026; the digital-photo page shows an update date of 9 September 2026. GOV.UK: printed passport photo requirements.

UK digital-photo requirements are separate

For a UK digital passport photo, GOV.UK states a minimum of 600 px wide by 750 px high and a file size from 50 KB to 10 MB. The photo must be unaltered by computer software. For a photo taken on your own device, include the head, shoulders and upper body; do not crop it because cropping is done during the application.

Use the current issuer instructions for the actual submission. A pixel estimate from print dimensions does not replace these digital requirements.

What this calculator does not do

It is a unit and pixel-math aid only. It does not alter image detail or DPI metadata, resize a photo, or say that an issuer will accept a photo. Check requirements for the exact document and submission method before applying.
